Our last walk for July and what a long one this was! It took just under 2 hours (both ways) and thank goodness it took us through shady woodland, otherwise the heat would have been too much.
After parking the car at St Winnow, we walked through the campsite and through a sturdy, wooden gate which took us through a field.
Then through another gate, where we entered the woodland pathway, which bordered the Fowey River. The route has markers along the way and is fairly easy going. The trees are stunning and it was fabulous to see so many Beech trees, with loads of nuts (the Beech is the totem tree for Morgen Glitonea, who is on the Wheel of the Year at the moment).
As we walked along, we could see glimpses of the River Fowey, and the beautiful little creeks.
But as we continued, we could see the evidence of Storm Goretti. This is just one of the many great trees that have fallen into the river. It causes me much sadness.
Before you get to Lerryn there is a little spring on the left hand side of the pathway.
At last we reached Lerryn, but to get across the river, you have to navigate the stepping stones, which was quite interesting!
On the way back I noticed a beautiful Beech tree with little portals. Perhaps a home for nesting owls?

When we got back to St Winnow, nearly two hours later, we treated ourselves to a cream tea at Sue’s Celandine Food Truck. Well deserved I would say!
