Making the most of this warm weather, I was taken to Trebah Gardens. I had heard about this beautiful place, as my late husband’s brother was a good friend of the Watts family, who owned Trebah from 1972 to 1981. I can remember joining the Watts family at their holiday home in Coverack, for the 2000 Total Solar Eclipse.
Trebah was also owned by the Healey family in the 1960s. My eldest son, Paul owned an Austin-Healey sports car, many years ago.
The gardens are absolutely beautiful. With waterfalls, huge sturgeon, huge Gunnera and a fabulous beach. And even an amphitheatre.
The beach holds a place in history too. US troops departed from Trebah Beach in 1944 for the D Day invasion. Many years ago, I did a lot of work on Omaha Beach. This journey of mine is incredible. It seems to take me full circle.
And synchronicity was at play once again! Standing on the beach, I could see Sam, in his yacht, making his way out of the Helford River on his journey back to St Mawes. Sam, as you may well recall from a previous blog, invited me to sail with him from Mevagissey to Falmouth. We didn’t know that he was making that journey on the 26th, and he couldn’t see us waving. And then, if synchronicity couldn’t happen twice, I was blessed to have another sail with him, yesterday, and was able to view Trebah Beach from his yacht on a trip from St Mawes to Helford.
