Mary Tavey to Tavistock 20/8/24

I discovered a great walk from Mary Tavey to Tavistock which took me just over an hour and is fairly well signposted.  In the Sun and The Serpent, Hamish Miller talks about the Mary line passing through the church at Mary Tavey and I took the opportunity of accepting a lift to the church and then a pick up at Tavistock.

The church was so peaceful and I immediately felt the feminine energy, which seemed more intense around the font.

In the words of Hamish “After leaving the node at Brentor, heading out across Dartmoor,  Mary makes one last call at the beautiful moorland church at Mary Tavey. Set on the banks of a trickling river, Medieval and Norman relics mingle with Victoriana to create a singular atmosphere”.

William Crossing, the well known writer on Dartmoor, who spent his last years here, is buried at the top of the churchyard.

I left the church and the Mary line and crossed the bridge over the trickling river towards Peter Tavey.

The footpath is well marked and signposted.

I passed the church at Peter Tavey and then crossed the river where there was another signpost directing me to Tavistock.

On the way I passed a standing stone.

The walk then brought me parallel  to the hustle and bustle of the A386, which I managed to avoid until just before Kelly College.

A beautiful day, a beautiful walk, finished off with a nice hot chocolate.
