Carn Euny 2/2/2025

I stumbled on Carn Euny on the A30 on my way back from Chapel Carn Brae.  However I have since found a much easier route than taking the tiny, muddy lanes.  All I can say, am I glad I didn’t have to contend with any oncoming traffic.  The Universe must have been looking after me!

If only I had taken the footpath opposite the car park at Chapel Carn Brae.  And I would also have been able to have visited the two holy wells at Carn Euny as well.  Something for another trip.

Anyway, it was with relief that I saw the sign for Carn Euny after parking my car at a dead end with just enough parking for three cars.  The pathway is well signposted and I chose the green arrow (to the right) not the red (to the left).

The journey was well worth it.  I had no idea that a Neolithic settlement resided here.

There are plenty of information boards around.

But for me, the piece de resistance was the stone walled underground passage known as a fogou.  It reminded me of the Dolmen I visited in Locmariaquer Brittany, which was a burial passageway. Some say it was built for refuge and others for storing food.

I would have loved to have stayed longer at this place, but my intuition told me to get back.  Just as well. By the time I reached my car, the fog had started to roll in.

Blessings.
